Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU celebrates unique trauma designation

Friday, Aug. 23, 2013

Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) was recently designated the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in Virginia. CHoR hosted a celebration for the staff on Aug. 15 in the Critical Care Hospital at the VCU Medical Center.

This special designation means CHoR has the capability of providing leadership and total care for every aspect of injury, from prevention through rehabilitation. CHoR is one of only 39 other such centers across the country that demonstrates the highest level of patient care, education and research.

CHoR staff celebrated the designation with a former pediatric trauma patient, 13-year-old Chyanne Foutts, and her family. She and her parents are pictured with Jeffrey Haynes, M.D., director of CHoR’s Children’s Trauma Center, and Rahul Anand, M.D., the emergency surgeon who helped save Foutts after a traumatic car crash in March 2013.
Foutts was airlifted through the Life Evac helicopter in March. She posed after the event with two of the team members who brought her to CHoR after her accident. Photos courtesy of University Relations.
