The Virginia Commonwealth University Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center will host its inaugural 5K walk/run fundraiser, with Heather Sullivan, NBC 12 News anchor, serving as emcee.

The Movin’ and Shakin’ 5K race will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014. The start and finish line of the 5K (3.1 mile of flat course) is at the Innsbrook Office Park, Snag-A-Job Pavilion. The event area opens at 7:30 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m. Registration, which is now open for the event, is $30.

The 5K will make a resounding impact. Community participation will directly support research and services that improve the quality of life for those affected by Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders in the Greater Richmond community and beyond. The event is named in honor of the Movers and Shakers, a grassroots Parkinson’s disease advocacy group in Richmond and strong supporters of the center. Run, jog or walk in the race or just attend to serve as a virtual “Mover and Shaker.”

The center strives to be a premier model for improving the lives of individuals with movement disorders, their families and the community by its commitment to excellence in comprehensive interdisciplinary clinical care, translational research, education and outreach.

Sponsorships are available on all levels and are greatly appreciated. Please contact Andrea Perseghin at (804) 662-5300 or aperseghin@vcu.edu for more information.
