MCV Campus street to be closed for utilities construction

RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 12, 2006) ā€“ Virginia Commonwealth University and the City of Richmond issue the following traffic alert for motorists and pedestrians:

A portion of North 13th Street between East Marshall and just north of the entrance to the VCU Medical Center Parking Deck ā€œDā€ will be closed to traffic starting Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at 6 p.m. for underground utilities construction. The street will remain closed for up to six months.

The closure will be clearly marked with barricades and signs. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use East Broad, North 11th, East Leigh or North 10th streets to East Duval Street to access this area. VCU Police will be stationed at select intersections during the first week to assist in managing traffic.

The utilities work is being conducted in conjunction with the construction of a new, $192 million, 367,000 square-foot critical care hospital building.  he Critical Care Hospital includes three basement levels and 12 floors above ground and is expected to open in 2008.
