Meredith Weiss named VCU vice president for administration

Virginia Commonwealth University officials announced today the appointment of Meredith Weiss, Ph.D., as vice president for administration, effective Aug. 1. Weiss comes to VCU from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is senior associate vice chancellor for finance and administration.

As VCU’s chief administrative officer, Weiss will oversee human resources, facilities management, police, technology services, safety and risk management planning and assessment and quality improvement.

“Dr. Weiss brings a wealth of experience in organizational leadership and facilities, technology and human resources management,” said VCU President Michael Rao, Ph.D. “She also is a dedicated scholar who teaches, conducts research and publishes – a senior higher education leader who understands the administrative and academic demands inherent in running a world-class institution.”

In her latest role, Weiss has overseen the university’s financial, budget, treasury and accounting operations. During her more than a decade at the university, she also served as associate vice chancellor for business services and administration, associate vice chancellor for campus safety and risk management and held positions at the university’s law school as associate dean for administration, finance and information technology and as assistant dean for information technology.

Weiss received a Ph.D. in information science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also earned master’s degrees in business administration and information science from North Carolina Central University, a master’s degree in instructional technology from East Carolina University and a bachelor’s degree in human resources from the University of Delaware.
