The Virginia Commonwealth University Staff Senate will host Employee Appreciation Week from March 6–10, which will include its annual professional development conference, “Discover the Greatness in You,” for VCU and VCU Health employees.

This weeklong celebration of employees will include discounts, giveaways and fun activities on both the Monroe Park and MCV campuses, including free doughnuts from the Krispy Kreme Cruiser, office visits from Rodney the Ram and staff senators, free tours of the Capitol, a Cabell Library open house event, and tours of both Cabell Library and Tompkins-McCaw Library. VCU Recreational Sports is offering free membership for the week, and RamTech and Barnes & Noble @ VCU are offering discounts for employees. That is what Employee Appreciation Week is all about — that sense of community.

“This week will involve appreciating folks and hopefully making their day, as well as spreading some cheer around the university,” said Sania Marcoccia, president of the Staff Senate. “All of the employees at VCU work in so many different areas and we all have our own pieces to contribute to the university’s mission. We want to make sure people feel like they’re a part of the bigger picture and that is what Employee Appreciation Week is all about — that sense of community.”

This year’s professional development conference, “Discover the Greatness in You,” will be held March 8–9 and is open to all staff and team members of VCU and VCU Health. Both days will have the same agenda and will feature Andy Core, author and speaker on work-life balance, productivity and well-being, and Yewande Austin, artist, activist and ambassador. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy the various speakers, workshops and hands-on training. To register, visit https://staffsenate.vcu.edu/conference/#register

Staff Senate is an organization of engaged and enthusiastic staff and team members. Senators serve on committees across both campuses with representatives from the student body, faculty and administration. Senators work toward achieving the goals and initiatives outlined the university’s strategic plan, Quest for Distinction.
