VCU Police put up 50 signs along streets that run through both campuses to encourage drivers to buckle their seatbelts as part of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

The first part of the campaign focuses on education, as promoted through the signs, an electronic message on the Siegel Center marquee and additional publicity.

The education period is followed by an enforcement period, which runs from May 21 to June 3.

Police will check for seat belt violators and other traffic issues during an administrative checkpoint on Friday, June 1.

Last year, VCU Police wrote 1,178 summonses and made 53 arrests during the enforcement period, including 18 arrests for driving under the influence and 140 tickets for seat belt violations.
