The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department, in partnership with the Richmond Police Department and TDoR RVA, will dedicate an Okame cherry tree on Friday in honor of the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.

The tree, which is planted at VCUPD headquarters, will serve as a public space for the community to remember transgender individuals who have lost their lives due to violence. TDoR RVA is a local group dedicated to honoring the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance in Richmond, which is recognized every Nov. 20.
