VCU Police offer up to $2,500 reward for information that leads to arrests in assaults, robbery

Crime Stoppers of Metro Richmond is also featuring the cases

The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to the arrests of those involved a pair of assaults, the second including a strong armed robbery, on the Monroe Park Campus on Aug. 22.

Crime Stoppers of Metro Richmond also is featuring the cases and offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to arrests.

VCU Police said at around 2:55 a.m. on Aug. 22 a group of about 15 black males and females ranging in age from 17 to 22 punched a male as he was getting out of his vehicle near the intersection of Shafer and Grace streets. The man who was assaulted is not affiliated with VCU.

Police said the second incident took place a few minutes later at the intersection of Franklin and Shafer streets, when the same group approached a male VCU student and commented about the boots he was wearing. The group punched the student in the back of the head and knocked him to the ground. He was then punched in the neck and a pack of cigarettes was removed from his pants pocket.

The group was last seen walking south through Shafer Court.

Police have released two security camera photos to media and have asked for help from the public in identifying some of the people in those photos. The photos also may be viewed on the VCU Police Department website at http://www.police.vcu.edu/.
