VCU hosts third annual Diversity & Inclusion Symposium

CommUnity 2017 brings together organizations to discuss education, workforce and community

Virginia Commonwealth University and the Greater Richmond Society of Human Resource Management will host their third annual Diversity and Inclusion Symposium on May 23 and 24.

“Community: Celebrating the heroes amongst us” will be held from 3-6 p.m. on May 23, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on May 24, in the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballrooms, 907 Floyd Ave. The event brings together organizations from private and public sectors, across all industry segments, to engage in a critical dialogue about diversity and inclusion and their role in education, workforce and community.  

Keynote speakers are Tiffany Jana, CEO of TMI Consulting, who will present “Overcoming Bias: Moving Beyond Words & Into Action,” and Andres T. Tapia, senior client partner/solution lead of Korn Ferry, who will present “The Inclusion Paradox: Why Your Current Diversity Strategy is Not Enough.” Ronald Schmitz, chief information officer of the Virginia Retirement System will present “Case Study: Why Building a Diverse Investments Team Can Deliver Big Results.” Kelley Libby, public radio producer and creator of the radio series, “UnMonumental” will deliver the closing session, “UnMonumental: Everybody Has a Story.”
