Citizens Against Crime is sponsoring a vigil in memory of VCU sculpture student Tyler J. Binsted, who was killed in a robbery at Richmond’s Byrd Park last week.

The vigil is set for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the park’s Roundhouse, near Fountain Lake. The park is at Boulevard and Idlewood Avenue. The VCU community is invited to attend.

Binsted, 19, was shot early Thursday near the Byrd Park tennis courts. He and a friend were visiting the park when they were approached and robbed by two males, police said. Police have one man in custody and are still seeking a second suspect.

Funeral services were held Monday for the sophomore in his hometown of Mount Jackson, in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley.
