The Virginia Premier Health Plan, a nonprofit managed care organization that coordinates health care for low-income people, will open an office in Bristol this month at 105 Village Circle.

The new office will create almost 30 jobs, some of which have already been filled. Additional transportation and call-center positions will be filled in the coming months.

Services based in the Bristol location will include member services, provider services, health education, medical management/outreach (to assist in management of diseases such as diabetes) and transportation.

“We want to have local staff members that our members and providers can call,” said Carl Gattuso, chief corporate officer of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. “Building strong relationships with the communities we serve is of the utmost importance to us.”

In addition to the Bristol office, Virginia Premier Health Plan has smaller Southwest Virginia satellite offices in Wise and Richlands.
