Michael R. Porter joined OCPR in December 2005 and is based on the Monroe Park Campus. He coordinates the media relations efforts of the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. He also serves as a liaison between the VCU Police Department and the media.
Porter has more than two decades of media experience, most recently reporting on state government for WWBT-12, the NBC affiliate in Richmond, Va. In that role, he was responsible for coordinating and carrying out daily coverage of the Virginia General Assembly. He previously worked in a variety of broadcast reporting and management positions in Washington, D.C., Charleston, S.C., and Johnstown, Pa.
Porter graduated with a bachelor’s degree in speech and communication arts from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. He is a native of Cumberland, Md.
