Tips for a successful video

Here are a few things to consider that will help you focus on what’s most important before production begins.

  • Do you have a budget for the project?
  • What do you want to achieve with the video?
  • Who is the target audience?
  • What is the call to action – what do you want the audience to do after watching the video?
  • How many interviews need to be conducted?
  • Is a script necessary and if so, who will write it?
  • How will the presentation be shown?
  • How many shooting locations are there and what are the logistical concerns?
  • Do you need former patients to help tell the story?
  • Will you need extra graphics or animations in the video?
  • Are there any other materials that need to be included in the video, such as photographs?

Keep the video short. Five to seven minute is ideal. Don’t expect the video to convey all the details — just the most visual ones. Remember, most videos are usually one component of a larger communications effort. Some information is better delivered through print materials and other means.

It’s best to limit the number of interviews to only the people directly involved in the subject matter of the video.

A representative from your department should plan to serve as the point person for the project. This individual should attend every interview and shoot to make sure we capture everything that’s needed. In addition, this person should be able to facilitate approvals, help schedule shoots and answer questions. Once approvals are given, any changes made thereafter may be additionally billed.

Once you’ve given some thought to the questions above and are ready to proceed, call or e-mail us and we’ll be happy to discuss your project with you.
