The start of the 2010 spring semester brings three essential offices together in one building to simplify the process for Virginia Commonwealth University students taking care of their enrollment services needs.
The new Harris Hall Student Services Center opened Jan. 4, 2010, along with three other campus buildings, combining Records and Registration, Financial Aid, Student Accounting and the cashier’s office at 1015 Floyd Ave., on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus.
“It’s more convenient because you don’t have to go around to other places,” said junior Chemistry major Meghan O’Dell, who visited Harris Hall the week before classes. “Even if you don’t know exactly where to go, it’s all in one building, on one floor, so you’ll find it.”
Students are able to register, withdraw or drop classes, receive a transcript, update address information and pay bills all in the first floor center. Documents can also be submitted in a drop-box and centrally located services ensure students are accurately guided to the right resource. Previously, students had to visit Founders Hall to conduct business with Records and Registration and Student Accounting and then to Ginter Hall for Financial Aid.
“Now we don’t have to send people from place to place to get what they need,” said senior J.R. Johnson, a center student assistant.
VCU students will have their enrollment services-related questions answered at the front desk or can access their account information themselves at one of the self-service computers available in the same room.
Records and Registration is responsible for registering students for classes and recording their academic achievements. The Student Accounting Department is responsible for the assessment, billing and collection of tuition, housing and dining charges, and other university fees. The Office of Financial Aid is a service organization supporting VCU’s enrollment and retention goals by identifying and obtaining resources for students to pursue their educational goals.
