Marcus Messner and Vivian Medina-Messner, journalism professors in the Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture, are organizing a speaker series centered on the presidential race. The series, "Tweets from the Trail: The Media and the 2016 Presidential Campaign," will begin next week.
The first event, featuring CNN reporter Ryan Nobles, will be held the morning after the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Nobles will join Virginia Commonwealth University students virtually from New York after covering the debate.
The second event, scheduled for Oct. 4, will feature Andrew Cain, political editor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, who will speak at VCU the day of the vice presidential debate between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence. That debate is taking place in Virginia at Longwood University.
Medina-Messner and Messner will moderate both events as part of their "iPadJournos" class. Additional seating for anyone interested in attending will be made available. Seats will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis. Space is limited.
