Virginia Commonwealth University hosted a two-day campus crime prevention training course.

“Making Your Campus Safer: Assessing Risks and Liabilities” was developed by the National Crime Prevention Council and college crime prevention experts and took place on Nov. 12 and 13.  Police from VCU, the University of Richmond, the University of Virginia and Bridgewater College and representatives from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Virginia Department of Transportation took part.

Participants learned about comprehensive risk assessment, liability issues and the importance of developing a campus crime reduction action plan. VCU Police Capt. Grant Warren led sessions on “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” (CPTED) principles.
