Domestic violence experts at Virginia Commonwealth University will participate in an online chat to allow victims of domestic violence to ask questions and seek advice anonymously.
“Let's Talk About It: An Interactive Conversation About Domestic Violence” will be held on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. The chat is open to students, faculty and staff who will be able to interact with a panel of multi-disciplinary advocates, including representatives of the VCU Police Department and University Counseling Services who specialize in domestic violence issues.
“The anonymity creates a safe environment where members of the VCU community can feel free to ask a question they might not otherwise ask,” said VCU Police Cpl. Ishaq Lee. “This is especially important as domestic abuse is an under reported crime.”
Those interested can participate in the chat by visiting http://www.meebo.com/room/vcudomesticviolencechat/. Participants still will need to create a password and login. It does not require real names or VCU ID information.
The online chat is being held in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
