VCU Police Recognize 37th Basic Academy Recruits at Swearing-in Ceremony

Ceremony also celebrates the promotion of Christopher Preuss to assistant chief

The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department held a swearing in ceremony on April 13 for seven recruits in the department’s 37th Basic Academy.

Richmond Circuit Court Clerk Bevill M. Dean, a graduate of VCU, conducted the swearing-in ceremony for recruits Joel D. Abernathy, Edwin J. Alvarez, James P. Burke, Tra’Quann L. Buskey, Sintell M. Crew, Jeffery R. Grant and Jason M. Wyne.

A pinning ceremony also was conducted in recognition of Christopher Preuss’s promotion to assistant chief.

VCU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Shaka Smart delivered remarks during the ceremony.
