Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts will hold its annual undergraduate and graduate exhibitions from Thursday, March 24, through Sunday, May 15.

The end-of-year exhibitions represent the zenith of our students’ formal artistic education.

“The end-of-year exhibitions represent the zenith of our students’ formal artistic education,” said Joseph H. Seipel, dean of the VCU School of the Arts. “The exhibitions allow them to express their point of view and showcase who they are as artists.”

The Undergraduate Juried Fine Arts, Design & Kinetic Imaging Exhibitions kick off the season with an opening reception March 24 at 5 p.m. at the Anderson, 907½ W. Franklin St., and run through April 3.

Toby Kamps, curator of modern contemporary art at the Menil Collection, Houston, will jury the fine arts exhibition, while department faculty will jury the design exhibition.

The MFA thesis exhibition is the final requirement for students in the graduate fine arts and design programs, representing the culmination of each artist’s accomplishments over a two-year period.

Round one of the Graduate MFA Thesis Exhibitions begins with an opening reception April 8 at 5 p.m. and runs through April 24.

Round two runs April 29 through May 15 with an opening reception April 29 at 5 p.m.

Exhibitions will concurrently show at the Anderson, 907½ W. Franklin St., and the VCU School of the Arts Depot Gallery, 814 W. Broad St. Additional graduate work may be shown off site; locations and artists information for each MFA round and the juror for the undergraduate Kinetic Imaging exhibition will be announced at a later date.
