Registration is open for the Virginia Commonwealth University Staff Senate’s 8th annual Virginia’s Caring University Scholarship Walk-A-Thon on Thursday, March 29.

The walk is set for noon on the Monroe Park Campus and benefits the Virginia’s Caring University Scholarship – an undergraduate award for juniors and seniors in financial need with a grade point average of 2.7 or better who can demonstrate past or current community service.

Since 2005, the scholarship has helped 70 undergraduate students continue their education and graduate from VCU by raising more than $65,000 from the VCU and VCU Health System communities.

Prior to the event, participants should gather in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms, located at 907 Floyd Ave. Dr. Eric West, assistant director of recreation sports and fitness programs, will lead participants in an aerobic warm-up followed by a walk around Monroe Park.

Food, giveaways and a chance to win raffle items and door prizes will be available. Participants also will have the opportunity to visit booths and tables of local vendors and supporters.

Registration is open to VCU and VCU Health System faculty, staff, students, alumni, retired faculty and community supporters and can be made online using a credit or debit card or by payroll deduction. Registration also will be available on the day of the event starting at 11 a.m.
