The first of a two-part poll about how Virginians view a wide range of public safety and emergency preparedness issues will be released this Thursday, Jan. 28, at an 11:30 a.m. press conference in the General Assembly Building’s House Briefing Room.

The L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University, in conjunction with the office of the Virginia secretary of public safety and homeland security, conducted the statewide poll in a first-ever partnership. The poll covers many topics that are pending before the General Assembly.

Brian Moran, Virginia secretary of public safety and homeland security, will join faculty experts from the Wilder School on Thursday to discuss the first part of the poll. The press conference will focus on public safety reforms including parole abolition, juvenile justice and marijuana possession.

The second press conference, to be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, will highlight the poll’s findings regarding terrorism, emergency preparedness and police legitimacy. It will also start at 11:30 a.m. in the House Briefing Room.
