New free community series brings VCU experts to Regency Square

From family-team building to a discussion about the impact of opioids in the Richmond region, VCU’s Office of Continuing and Professional Education is bringing experts to the community through a free series of events at Regency Square this summer and fall.

Sessions for the 3rd Wednesdays series are held in the Garden Room adjacent to the food court at Regency Square, 1420 N. Parham Rd., Richmond. Free RSVP for the sessions and more information is available at www.ocpe.vcu.edu/community.

“The 3rd Wednesday series is a great way to sample OCPE's offerings and meet new people," said Jennifer Sisane, program manager and school liaison. “You can participate in a fun family activity, learn about opioids in Virginia, get organization tips and even learn how you can save for continuing education through a Virginia 529 savings plan.”

Wednesday, July 19: Family team-building with Bob Nickles

This preview session of a two-part workshop will provide safe, engaging opportunities for families to build family unity in a fun setting. Parents, grandparents and other caregivers will gain techniques and frameworks for understanding children’s play and ideas for family activities. Families with children ages 4 and older are welcome to attend (children must be accompanied by an adult).

Organizing video on Facebook Live July 28

OCPE instructor Kathy Jenkins will share organizing tips and tricks during a Facebook Live session Friday, July 28 at noon.

Wednesday, August 16: Top 10 tips for getting organized

No matter the reason life feels disorganized or cluttered, there are simple things you can start to do right away to help you get on the path to better organization. Instructor Kathy Jenkins will share tips and tricks for getting organized.

OCPE will host more workshops at its downtown Richmond facility, located at 9 W. Cary St., including sessions on time management on July 27 and fundamental principles of organization on August 10.

 

Wednesday, September 20: Opioids in Virginia (National Recovery Month)

This interactive presentation will provide an overview of the opiate epidemic in Virginia. Experts will talk about current Virginia statistics and what is happening in local communities. They will also review some of the changes happening to address the opioid epidemic, including increasing continuing education for a variety of providers, community resources and training, and treatment resources.
