With fall approaching, cooler temperatures (finally) on the way and our air conditioners in desperate need of a break, just about everyone is seeking outdoor places to eat, study, grab a coffee, take a walk or just sit and enjoy a cool breeze. Autumn in Virginia is beautiful, and VCU’s Monroe Park and MCV campuses and nearby neighborhoods are full of outdoor gems, including Monroe Park and Capitol Square, the green roof atop the Pollak Building and smaller courtyards, parks and plazas on and off both campuses.

What’s your favorite? In 150 words or less, tell us where you go in Richmond to take a break, read a book or catch up with a friend. Share with us what makes your favorite place special to you.

Email your recommendations to vcunews@vcu.edu by Sept. 17 with the subject line “GREAT OUTDOORS.” Include your name, school and class year if you’re a student, and your title if you are an employee. Feel free to also send a photo of your favorite place as a file attachment. We’ll combine these mini essays into a story to publish in late September.

In the meantime, stay cool and stay hydrated. Fall is almost here.
