Kathleen Rudasill, Ph.D., has been named interim dean of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education, effective May 15.
Rudasill serves as professor and senior associate dean for research and faculty development in the School of Education. She joined VCU in 2018 after serving as the Susan J. Rosowski professor in educational psychology in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As senior associate dean, Rudasill is responsible for promoting the research agenda of the school through education and awareness of research opportunities and grant development, as well as faculty success through individual work with faculty and a commitment to the shared governance process.
Rudasill is an active scholar focused on understanding how children’s individual differences are related to academic and social success, and how this relationship is moderated and mediated by classroom processes. She has served as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on grants totaling more than $6.4 million; has published 85 peer-reviewed articles, books and chapters; regularly presents her work at academic conferences; and serves on the editorial review boards of four journals. She is a member of the Society for Research in Child Development, the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.
Rudasill earned a B.A. in public policy from Washington and Lee University, an M.A.Ed. in secondary social studies teaching from the College of William and Mary and her Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Virginia.
Rudasill will succeed Andrew Daire, Ph.D., who has served as dean of the School of Education since 2016. Daire accepted the position of provost and vice chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, effective June 1.
