VCU alum Mo Alie-Cox will serve as university’s May commencement speaker

Alie-Cox, a former standout on the Rams men’s basketball team, has enjoyed a career in the NFL as a pass-catching tight end.

Former Virginia Commonwealth University men’s basketball star Mo Alie-Cox will serve as the university’s May commencement speaker this year.

Alie-Cox earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs in 2015 and a master’s degree in criminal justice in 2017. He switched sports after college and has established himself as a tight end in the NFL. During his career so far with the Indianapolis Colts, Alie-Cox has 89 career receptions and 11 touchdowns.

At VCU, the 6-foot-5 Alie-Cox was a fan favorite on the court, inspiring a popular chant of “Mo Says No” from the Siegel Center crowd every time he blocked an opponent’s shot. He was a part of VCU’s first-ever Atlantic 10 Conference championship and still holds the program’s record for field goal percentage.
