Lane and sidewalk closures to begin on Broad and Belvidere streets amid construction of CoStar Center for Arts and Innovation

Due to construction of the CoStar Center for Arts and Innovation at Virginia Commonwealth University, one northbound lane and the sidewalk on North Belvidere Street between West Grace and West Broad streets, as well as one eastbound lane and the sidewalk on West Broad between North Belvidere and North Henry Street, are expected to be closed from July 30 until construction is complete, which is anticipated by late 2027.

VCU is coordinating with the city of Richmond and GRTC, the local transit agency. Signage will be posted to help mitigate traffic impacts. Also during construction, a bus stop on West Broad will be relocated one block to the east.

The CoStar Center for Arts and Innovation will be located on the southeast corner of West Broad and North Belvidere streets, across from the Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU.

The 212,000-square-foot building will bring together many of VCU’s nationally prominent arts and innovation programs under one roof. The design features flexible classroom spaces, interdisciplinary performance venues and makerspaces for rapidly growing partnerships across arts, business, humanities and sciences, medicine and engineering.
