Suzanne Milton, J.D., has been appointed as chief audit and compliance executive of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Audit and Compliance Services unit. Her appointment was approved last week by the VCU Health System Authority Board of Directors and VCU Board of Visitors.

Milton, who was selected following a national search, will lead VCU’s audit and compliance functions. She has extensive experience in ethics and compliance and in leading legal, compliance and human resources teams in large organizations.

Audit and Compliance Services works in partnership with university and VCU Health management to anticipate and manage risks; ensure the integrity of internal controls; ensure strong stewardship and management accountability; and promote a culture of integrity and compliance.

Milton joined VCU in December 2021 as chief ethics and compliance officer. She previously held a similar role for US Foods Inc., a large public foodservice wholesale company based in Chicago.

She practiced in-house labor and employment law for the U.S. Postal Service for 18 years before shifting to ethics and compliance in 2004. Milton has also previously served as the managing ethics advisor to the government relations and international teams at the Boeing Co., where she hired and supervised a global team of ethics advisors.

Milton earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in history and literature and a J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.

Milton succeeds David Litton, who was appointed to the position in an interim capacity in December 2023.
