Solvent Space, a new experimental exhibition space, will host work by computer artist Cory Archangel starting Friday.

Archangel’s “Sweet 16” opens with a reception Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Solvent Space, which is located in the Plant Zero arts complex at 0 East 4th Street in Richmond. Solvent Space is a project of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts and the Department of Painting and Printmaking in cooperation with Plant Zero. “Sweet 16” will be on view at Solvent Space through Dec. 22.

For “Sweet 16,” Archangel applied American avant-garde composer Steven Reich’s concept of phasing to the guitar introduction of the band Guns N' Roses’ song, “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Archangel used the same two clips from the song’s music video and shortened one clip by a single note. As the videos loop, the two introductions grow further apart until they are back in sync.

Archangel is a computer artist, performer and curator who lives and works in Brooklyn. His work centers on his love of computers and the Internet.
