The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business’ Department of Marketing, in collaboration with Verizon Communications, will host Brian Angiolet, executive director of national marketing for Verizon Telecom, on Wednesday as part of the inaugural event of the Verizon/MKTG Speaker Series.

Angiolet will lead a discussion titled, “The FIOS Story: Creating Market Share in a Crowded Market,” at 2:30 p.m. in the Mary Morton Parsons Auditorium in Snead Hall, 301 W. Main St. The event will attract more than 100 alumni, industry leaders, students, faculty, staff and marketing executives. Seating is limited. To reserve a seat, RSVP at (804) 828-1618 or mktgdept@vcu.edu.

Verizon is transforming its telecommunications network by deploying advanced fiber optics directly to customers’ homes and businesses, offering an all-fiber network alternative to traditional cable television, as well as super-fast Internet access. In only three years, Verizon has become the nation’s seventh-largest cable TV company with 1.9 million customers.

“This promises to be a unique opportunity to hear from one of the top executives in the field of communications and marketing,” said David Urban, Ph.D., professor of marketing and chair of the Department of Marketing at VCU. “The FIOS story features technological innovation, branding and traditional and non-traditional marketing tactics. It is an excellent example of the linkage between business and engineering, and it promises to be an exciting program.”

Angiolet will speak from 3 to 4 p.m., and attendees are invited to meet Angiolet and other Verizon executives at a 2:30 p.m. reception in the Snead Hall atrium.
