RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Commonwealth University will host the final show of MTV’s Campus Invasion 2K2 tour at the Stuart C. Siegel Center’s ALLTEL Pavilion May 1. The tour features Nickelback, Default, Injected and Starsailor and includes an afternoon expo in VCU’s Student Commons courtyard. Highlights will be broadcast on MTV.

The expo, which will be held from noon-5 p.m. at 907 Floyd Ave., will include interactive kiosks to teach participants how to play guitar, keyboard and drums, a mini recording studio and a music playground where people can perform as a band. New music demos will be given away as well as ready-made CD-ROMs. Using virtual reality, participants can experience a jam session with their favorite artists in "the day in the life of a rock star" technology. A disc jockey will be spinning music, while others will be on hand to give dance lessons.

The evening concert, featuring Nickelback, Default and Injected, will be held at the Siegel Center’s ALLTEL Pavilion, 1200 W. Broad St. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets to the evening concert for VCU students are $11 and go on sale March 26. Tickets for the general public are $21 and go on sale March 30.

Starsailor, which will perform on the MTV2 stage located outside of the Siegel Center at 5:30 p.m., was handpicked by MTV2 as an up-and-coming band. The expo and outdoor concerts are free and open to the public.

"We are always looking for great events to bring to VCU for our students," said Henry Rhone, Ph.D., vice provost for student affairs. "Not only does the MTV tour put VCU and Richmond on the map, but it also brings some of the music industry’s hottest talent right to our campus."

VCU’s Siegel Center is quickly becoming a major concert venue for VCU and the Richmond area. This year alone it has brought the Barenaked Ladies, Ludacris, Staind and local stars Carbon Leaf.

Tickets will be available at the VCU Box Office at the Siegel Center and at any Ticketmaster outlet. For more information, call (804) 828-RAMS.
