Northrop Grumman Newport News recently donated $1,250 to Virginia Commonwealth University's Career Center to assist with upcoming job recruitment efforts.

George Whitted, human resources administrator for Northrop Grumman Newport News, presented the Career Center with the $1,250 gift, which was the second donation given to the Career Center since February, when the company donated their first gift of $1,000.

"We can use these gifts to do things that we ordinarily can't cover, like career fairs and large events that can serve more people at one time, said Cheryl Melton, director of VCU's Career Center.

Melton also said the gift will assist VCU in their attempt to continue finding talented and qualified individuals for positions with Northrop Grumman Newport News. The company has established a relationship with VCU in seeking individuals qualified for positions with their company, particularly students from VCU's School of Engineering.

"VCU has an excellent School of Engineering, and the quality of students in their program are the types of individuals we look for when hiring full-time employees for our company, said Whitted.

The VCU Career Center provides free services to students and recent alumni, such as help with selecting a major, career and resume planning, interview strategies and assistance in locating internship and co-op opportunities. In the past year, VCU's Career Center counselors have counseled over 3,000 individuals and in addition, have aided various employers in recruiting individuals for full time and part time employment opportunities as well as temporary internship positions.
