VCU hosts fifth annual food drive to benefit the Central Virginia Food Bank
Share this story
For the fifth year, Virginia Commonwealth University is holding a university-wide food drive to support the Central Virginia Food Bank and its affiliated Meals on Wheels and Community Kitchen programs.
The drive takes place on both campuses from April 22 to April 26. Donations of food and money will be accepted at various locations. The goal of this year’s drive is to feed 50,000 people.
The Division of Community Engagement has drawn support from several departments at VCU to help make the drive a success.
VCU Dining Services will support the drive by focusing on the reduction of food waste at Shafer Dining Hall and the University Student Commons on the Monroe Park Campus. Dining Services will match the amount of food waste reduction with the donation of an equal amount of food to the Central Virginia Food Bank.
VCU Athletics has provided prizes for use at food drive events and the Alumni Association has pledged a $500 prize to the largest departmental donor.
