Adin Lears, Ph.D., an assistant professor of English at Virginia Commonwealth University, has been named a fellow at the Society for the Humanities at Cornell University for the 2020-21 academic year. The majority of her time during the fellowship will be spent completing her second book on crafting during the Middle Ages.
“I am surprised and delighted,” Lears said of earning the fellowship.
Lears was awarded $52,000 and will be in-residence at Cornell. The theme for the fellowship was “Fabrication,” which Lears thought that fit well with her book.
In the spring of 2021, she will teach a graduate seminar on Medieval Technologies of the Self. Lears, who earned her doctorate at Cornell, also will spend time collaborating with other fellows and university faculty.
“The idea of working with an interdisciplinary group of scholars around a unifying theme was really appealing to me,” she said.
