Virginia Commonwealth University’s Office of Continuing and Professional Education will offer its first 10-week workshop focused on writing memoir, a form of literary nonfiction composed from personal experience.

The Introduction to Writing Memoir workshop is designed for people with English as their primary language who want to record personal reflections from their early life experiences and may wish to leave a personal legacy for children or grandchildren.

Introduction to Writing Memoir, which concentrates on “the beginning,” will start Aug. 5 and will continue through Oct. 14. Participants will meet on Wednesdays from1:30–3 p.m. at the Career and Technical Center at Hull Street, 13900 Hull St. in Midlothian. Free on-site parking is provided. The cost to register is $200 for 15 hours of classroom instruction. The 90-minute workshops offer class discussions, one-on-one coaching and in-class writing time.

An evening offering will be available soon to meet the needs of working adults interested in taking the Introduction to Writing Memoir workshop.
