VCU School of the Arts professor designs commemorative poster for SunTrust Richmond Marathon

Proceeds from sale of poster to benefit Donate Life program

The SunTrust Richmond Marathon’s 2004 commemorative poster was created by illustrator Robert Meganck, professor of Communication Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University.

All proceeds from the sale of the poster will benefit Donate Life, a program of the non-profit agencies United Network for Organ Sharing and LifeNet. Donate Life is the official beneficiary of the SunTrust Richmond Marathon.

The 22” x 28” poster depicts an abstracted lone marathon runner with visual references to Richmond’s row houses, the James River and the fall season. It is currently available for purchase on the race website at www.richmondmarathon.com and also will be offered at the race expo on Friday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Omni Richmond Hotel, 100 S. 12h St. The 27th running of the SunTrust Richmond Marathon will take place Saturday, Nov. 13 at 8 a.m.

Meganck is a freelance illustrator and president of Communication Design, Inc. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

He has received numerous awards and has been recognized by organizations such as The Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles, and The Illustrators Club of Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. His work has been included in a variety of national reviews including Communication Arts Magazine's Illustration Annuals, American Illustration Annuals, Print Magazine's Region Design Annuals, and The Society of Illustrators Annuals.
