Virginia Commonwealth University students who wish to display their school pride long after graduation finally will have the opportunity to do so with the debut of the first official school ring.

Jostens, in cooperation with a ring selection committee of students, administrators and alumni from the Monroe Park and MCV campuses, has created several ring designs from which students may choose.

On the left side of the ring, which features a student’s degree initials, students may select an image of the Egyptian Building, a historic landmark on the MCV Campus, or the multi-tiered iron fountain in Monroe Park.

On the right side of the ring, which features a student’s graduation year, students may select a Rams logo or an image of the compass point near the James Branch Cabell Library.

The designs include a black onyx stone, which comes in circular or oval shape. Students may opt for a solid stone, a stone with an encrusting of the VCU logo or a stone with a crest of the compass point.

For those who prefer a solid metal ring, Jostens is offering another design that has a raised metal top of the compass.

A distinctive feature on the inside of all the designs is a depiction of the James River below two stars that symbolize VCU’s two campuses.

Jostens representatives will be at Larrick Student Center Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at the University Student Commons Oct. 22-23 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to discuss payment plans and other details.

The company also will have information about trade-ins for students who have purchased unofficial VCU rings.
