VCU Health is holding its inaugural series of educational sessions on current health care topics in January at the Neuroscience, Orthopaedic and Wellness Center at Short Pump Town Center, 11958 W. Broad St. The following seminars will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Each session is free and open to the public. For more information, call (804) 628-0041. Jan. 16 – “Inspire Therapy: Better Sleep for the New Year”
Continuous positive airway pressure is the leading therapy for sleep apnea, but not everyone benefits from its impact. Inspire therapy is a new, implantable treatment option for patients with obstructive sleep apnea that monitors and mildly stimulates airway muscles to keep them open while sleeping. Join Ryan Nord, M.D., a VCU Health otolaryngologist, to learn more about the treatment and determine if it’s a good option for you. Register here.
Jan. 23 – “Sweet New Year: Eating Healthy and Sugar”
Should people use artificial sweeteners? What’s an added sugar? Is there a difference between honey, agave and cane sugar? Erin Taylor, a VCU Health clinical dietitian, will discuss the variations of sugar and why reducing the amount consumed daily can improve overall health. (Note: This session is filled to capacity but will be livestreamed through VCU Health’s Facebook page.)
