Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking nominations for the Presidential Awards for Community Multicultural Enrichment (PACME), which will be presented during the 2015 annual PACME celebration on April 14.
PACME honors individuals who have made significant contributions toward enhancing VCU's commitment to making excellence inclusive. The awards were created to recognize and encourage such contributions that may include promoting civility, building community, establishing effective cross-cultural initiatives, advocating equity and nurturing openness and inclusion within the university community.
Four separate awards recognize students; faculty; classified and hourly staff; and administrators. In addition to the award, each recipient will receive $500. The Riese-Melton Award, which is given for contributions to cross-cultural relations, is the capstone award. The recipient of this award will be chosen from the four PACME winners and will receive an additional $250.
Nominations should be submitted electronically by March 2, 2015. Information and the nomination form are available at http://www.inclusive.vcu.edu/news/pacme.html.
Last year’s award winners were Christopher Woleben, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and associate dean of student affairs in the VCU School of Medicine (administrator); Faye Belgrave, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Psychology in the College of Humanities and Sciences (faculty); Steven Crossman, M.D., director of predoctoral programs in the School of Medicine’s Department of Family Medicine and Population Health (faculty); and Jenson Larrimore, a student in the Department of Psychology. Belgrave was also the recipient of the capstone Riese-Melton Award, given for contributions to cross-cultural relations.
In addition, Henry Rhone, Ph.D., retiring vice provost for student affairs, was honored with the President's Inclusive Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 2015 awards ceremony will be held on April 14 at 3 p.m. in the Richmond Salons in the University Student Commons.
