Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU to Hold Graduation for Cancer Survivors and Patients with Blood Disorders

Twenty former patients of the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University will be honored for continuing their studies while undergoing challenging treatments and procedures and earning high school diplomas this spring. Hospital staff will present the graduates with awards and college scholarships during a ceremony on Tuesday.

WHAT:     Division of Hematology and Oncology Graduation

WHEN:    June 5, 2012
        11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHO:        20 former patients (cancer, hemophilia and sickle cell)
        Keynote speaker: Bridget Healy Daw, aplastic anemia survivor
        Keynote speaker: Kevin Hagaman, leukemia survivor

Media must be escorted on hospital property. Representatives from the VCU Office of Communications and Public Relations will be on hand. Families will be available for interviews during lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The formal program will begin at 12:30 p.m.
