CNN national correspondent Suzanne Malveaux, an award-winning journalist, will serve as the keynote speaker at the ninth annual HIGHER Ground Women’s Leadership Conference.

The conference, which is developed by Virginia Commonwealth University’s Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute, will take place on Jan. 30, 2015, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Richmond Marriott, 500 E. Broad St., Richmond.

Malveaux covers politics, national news, international events and culture for the network.  Previously she co-anchored CNN’s “Around the World” program, as well as the network’s Emmy Award-winning coverage of the revolution in Egypt and Peabody Award-winning coverage of the Arab Spring.

She also launched malveauxmission.org, an initiative to raise awareness about ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

“We are thrilled to have Suzanne Malveaux serve as the keynote speaker,” said Nakeina E. Douglas-Glenn, Ph.D., director of the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute. “Consistent with Dr. Harris’ legacy, Malveaux is a trailblazer in her profession and is making a great contribution through her philanthropic work. Ms. Malveaux’s personal and professional leadership journey is exactly the kind of exemplary leadership we embody and empower through our work here at The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute.”

The HIGHER Ground Women’s Leadership Conference provides high-quality education and networking opportunities for women from across Virginia. Each year, more than 300 women share ideas, discuss leadership practices and explore factors that influence their effectiveness at work, home and in their communities.
