Ernestine Bradley to speak at sixth annual Women & Wellness luncheon

RICHMOND, Va. – Ernestine Bradley, author, cancer survivor and wife of former U.S. Senator and recent presidential candidate Bill Bradley, will be the featured speaker at the sixth annual Women & Wellness Luncheon, a forum offered by Virginia Commonwealth University’s Massey Cancer Center. The luncheon is sponsored by The Jenkins Foundation.
The luncheon will be held from noon - 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2001, at The Jefferson Hotel, 101 W. Franklin St. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit breast cancer research at VCU’s Massey Cancer Center. Last year, over $200,000 was raised.
Bradley has been an active and outspoken voice in cancer education, having successfully battled breast cancer in 1992. For more than 35 years, Bradley, known professionally as Dr. Ernestine Schlant, has taught German comparative literature. She has held visiting professorships at Yale and Columbia universities and is currently a professor at Montclair State University, in Upper Montclair, N.J. Bradley emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1957. Her latest book is Language of Silence: West German Literature and the Holocaust, published in March 1999.
The Massey Cancer Center is Virginia’s first National Cancer Institute designated center. With over 170 nationally recognized scientists, physicians and nurses, the Massey Cancer Center is a leader in cancer research and treatment.
