En route to their version of Olympics-inspired summer games, 286 foreign language students attending the second annual Governor’s Summer Residential Foreign Language Academies pause at the Virginia Commonwealth University Student Commons Plaza. The students spend three weeks on campus in a global village that features an immersion program in which classes, social activities, entertainment and daily conversations are conducted in the language of study. There are six groups studying French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Latin and Russian. The coordinator for the program is Paul F. Dvorak, Ph.D., professor of German, in the VCU School of World Studies.
