Former U.S. Teaching Advisor to speak on keeping top teachers in urban schools at national press club Sept. 15

WHAT:           Therese K. Dozier, Ed.D., will speak on a new report called "Missed Opportunities:  How We Keep High-Quality Teachers out of Urban Classrooms" as part of a panel at the National Press Club.

                        The report, prepared by the national nonprofit group "The New Teacher Project," shows urban school districts lose many of their best teacher applicants because they hire so much later than other districts. The report also explains the causes of the delays and possible solutions.

                        Dozier served as Senior Advisor on Teaching to United States Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley from 1993-2001. She is now an associate professor and Director of the Center for Teacher Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Education.
