Governor Warner to award schools for leadership in student achievement at VCU Education Conference, Oct. 10

WHAT: Gov. Mark R. Warner will attend the “LEADERS COUNT - in Virginia Schools” Conference, sponsored by the Commonwealth Educational Policy Institute (CEPI) at Virginia Commonwealth University. The two-day conference, which runs Oct. 9-10, will showcase state and local efforts to help school administrators improve student achievement through leadership development.
The Governor will present awards on Friday of the conference to school officials from Fairfax County, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk and Roanoke City to recognize their school divisions’ pioneering work in preparing exemplary school leaders.
The “LEADERS COUNT – in Virginia Schools” Conference offers a unique opportunity for school officials and others to learn about cutting-edge leadership development programs in Virginia. It is funded by a grant from the Wallace Foundation in New York City as part of a statewide review of policies and practices in school leadership.
