Virginia Commonwealth University has hired Heidi McCormick as the new director of VCU Career Services. McCormick comes to VCU with more than 20 years of higher education administration experience, primarily in career services and alumni relations.

Prior to joining VCU, McCormick served as director of alumni relations at her alma mater, the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. During her six years at Wooster she grew the connection between alumni and career services and helped advance the presence of experiential learning opportunities through her service on the president’s “Bringing Theory to Practice” task force.

"Heidi brings a large amount of knowledge, skills and leadership to Career Services that will help our efforts in not only reaching our divisional goals, but also President Rao's call for new students in the fall of 2017 to have a real-world experience”, said Reuban Rodriguez, Ed.D., associate vice provost and dean of student affairs.

In her new role, McCormick plans to grow student access to experiential learning with a focus toward deepening VCU’s commitment to the vitality of the Richmond community and to organizations at the state and national level.

“This is an exciting time at VCU, with President Rao’s commitment to the development of the high-impact practice of experiential learning — a meaningful, hands-on experience in the real world,” said McCormick. “The work of educating students and helping launch them toward even higher achievement is paramount to the university’s mission. I am thrilled to be a part of it.”

McCormick previously served as director alumni relations and interim director of the career center at Case Western Reserve University and held roles at Marshall University and Randolph College. She received a Master of Arts in college student personnel administration from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Arts in urban studies from the College of Wooster.
