Local Social Media Club Hosts Panel Discussion at VCU

The Social Media Club EDU – Richmond Chapter will host a panel discussion, “Tweet That! Using Social Media for Career, Branding and Community Building,” on Oct. 12 at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The event will be held at the VCU Student Commons Theater, 907 Floyd Ave. at 6 p.m. Attendance is free and open to the public. However, tickets should be reserved in advance. VCU students, faculty and staff can secure their tickets at the VCU School of Mass Communications office in Temple Room 2216, 901 W. Social Media Club EDU is an initiative to connect local Social Media Club chapters with higher education students and professors. “Tweet That!” will be the first event of the club’s Richmond chapter.
The panel discussion will focus on social media as it impacts the education community. Panelists include:
- Trevor Dickerson, a 21-year-old VCU student who is co-owner of RVA MediaWorks, editor of DowntownShortPump.com, vice president of the Henrico Historical Society and a Richmond.com columnist.
- Jolie O’Dell, a tech blogger for publications such as ReadWriteWeb, StartupLuck, Adrants and Center Networks, and a consultant to publishers, serial entrepreneurs, startup teams and advertising and marketing agencies.
- Generra Peck, a recent graduate of the University of Richmond with a degree in business administration/marketing and a social media enthusiast interested in higher education and marketing.
- Candace Nicolls, a senior recruiter at Ironworks Consulting, a project-based consulting firm that primarily focuses on web-based technologies.
Marcus Messner, Ph.D., assistant professor of mass communications at VCU, will moderate the discussion.
