The Medical College of Virginia Alumni Association of Virginia Commonwealth University has elected George W. Burke III, M.D., as its new president.
Burke, a pulmonary-critical care physician with Pulmonary Associates of Richmond, recently began his two-year tenure as president of the MCV Alumni Association's Board of Trustees.
“The association is a way for alumni to give back to the university through their volunteer efforts and contributions,” said Burke.
Burke, who graduated in 1970, has been involved with the group for 32 years.
He has been an assistant clinical professor in the School of Medicine since 1990 and has held several academic appointments. He also is a former president of the Richmond Academy of Medicine.
Burke received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1966 and his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Medicine in 1970.
