National Volunteer Month Offers the VCU Community a Chance to Get Involved

April is National Volunteer Month and Virginia Commonwealth University’s Division of Community Engagement wants to make it easy for members of the VCU community to get involved in worthwhile volunteering opportunities in the Richmond region.

April offers several opportunities for involvement. Affordable Housing Awareness Week takes place the week of April 18 and needs volunteers to work with 15 nonprofit housing organizations to help build and repair homes. The VCU Campus Food Drive needs volunteers April 20 to April 22 to help collect food for the Central Virginia Food Bank. Volunteers are also needed for the university’s Earth Day celebration on April 22.

A complete list may be found at the Caring To Act Calendar. Volunteers can register at HandsOn Greater Richmond.

VCU’s community-service leave policy provides 12-month employees with 16 hours of paid leave each calendar year to participate in volunteer community service organizations.
