Nine VCU Students Receive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Nine Virginia Commonwealth University students have been awarded scholarships through the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program for study abroad during the summer and fall semesters this year. Each student received a scholarship of up to $5,000 and a total of $37,000 was awarded.
Heather Bae, a senior majoring in science with a concentration in health preparation, received a scholarship to study at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. Bae is from Yorktown, Va.
Simone Biasuzzi, a senior majoring in international studies and French, received a scholarship to study at the University of Grenoble in Grenoble, France. Biasuzzi is from Nassau, Bahamas.
Sebastian Jackson, a senior majoring in history, received a scholarship to study at the University of Tampere in Tampere, Finland. Jackson is from Columbia, Va.
Aaron Leulu, a junior majoring in information systems, received a scholarship to study at the University of Bradford in Bradford, United Kingdom. Leulu is from Falls Church, Va.
Kelsey O’Neill, a senior majoring in anthropology, international studies and French, received a scholarship to study with the Human Evolution and Legacy in South Africa program, a VCU faculty-led summer study abroad program that takes place in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Mossel Bay and the Kruger National Park. O’Neill is from Virginia Beach, Va.
David Rockman, a senior majoring in psychology and religious studies, received a scholarship to study at the University of Hyderabad in Hyderabad, India. Rockman is from San Juan Capistrano, Ca.
Amelia Tonelli, a junior majoring in fashion merchandising, received a scholarship to study during the fall 2012 semester at the VCU School of the Arts in Doha, Qatar. Tonelli is from Charlottesville, Va.
Tap van Kieu, a sophomore majoring in music and voice, received a scholarship to conduct a summer independent study at the B.A.C.H. Music School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Van Kieu is from Richmond, Va.
Sarah Watson, a senior majoring in international business management and accounting, received a scholarship to study at the University of Plymouth in Plymouth, United Kingdom. Watson is from Midlothian, Va.
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program supports undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000.This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
The scholarship program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and Institute of International Education.
