The Partnership for People with Disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University won one silver and two bronze awards at the 36th Annual Telly Awards for the video “Brandon’s Story, A Mother’s Voice.”

The eight-minute “Brandon’s Story” focuses on the important impact of early intervention for special-needs children and their families, told through the words of Brandon’s mother, Rhonda. Now 14, Brandon received early intervention services from birth to age 3. In the video, Brandon also shares his insights about people with disabilities and his passion for music.

“When early interventionists work with children, birth to age 3, with disabilities, and their families, they rarely consider the lifelong impact of their interactions and support,” said Cori Hill, Virginia Early Intervention professional development specialist and coordinator of the video project. “Brandon and his family allow us to reflect on their experiences in early intervention and celebrate [their] amazing accomplishments.”

The Partnership for People with Disabilities, part of the VCU School of Education, is a federally designated university center for excellence in developmental disabilities education, research and service. The partnership works with people with disabilities, their families, state and local agencies and community providers to enable individuals with disabilities to participate fully in their communities.

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards honors outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs; the finest video and film productions; and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, executive director. “This accomplishment of the Partnership for People with Disabilities illustrates their creativity, skill and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”

The 2015 Telly Awards received nearly 12,000 international entries, less than 10 percent of which earned the Silver Telly, the organization’s highest honor.  Approximately 25 percent of entries received the Bronze Telly.
